Vallam Vadagal SIPCOT, June 4, 2024 – In celebration of World Environment Day, Viruksham conducted a highly impactful Mega plantation drive by planting ten thousand trees within two months at the green belt area of Vallam Vadagal SIPCOT. The initiative saw the planting of well-grown jackfruit, Ilupai, and Lakshmitharu trees, aiming to enhance the ecological balance and promote environmental sustainability.
Aamro Freight Services Private Limited partnered with Viruksham and the employees of Aamro Freight Services participated enthusiastically, demonstrating their commitment to environmental conservation.
Lt Col N Thiagarajan, Veteran General Secretary of the Mastermind Foundation, Viruksham, emphasized the importance of tree plantation for carbon offsets and ecological balance. He highlighted the medicinal values of the Lakshmitharu tree, which is used in treating various diseases, including certain types of cancer. Additionally, he noted that the Ilupai tree is an integral part of Tamil Nadu’s culture and heritage.
Also, He added that Tree plantation is crucial for several reasons including Carbon Sequestration, Air Quality Improvement: Trees filter pollutants and produce oxygen, enhancing air quality, Habitat for Wildlife, Soil Conservation, Water Conservation etc..
World Environment Day is celebrated annually on June 5th to raise global awareness about environmental issues and encourage action to protect our planet. This year’s theme focuses on ecosystem restoration, highlighting the need to reimagine, recreate, and restore ecosystems worldwide.
The plantation drive organized by Viruksham NGO, on World Environment Day was a resounding success.
