“Tailoring is not just a skill but a tool for empowerment” – Lt Col N Thiagarajan, Veteran.
Avadi, Chennai – October 23, 2024 – The Mastermind Foundation, a renowned NGO committed to women empowerment, mental health, and environmental sustainability, proudly inaugurated a world-class tailoring school at the Ordnance Depot, Indian Army, in Avadi, Chennai. This initiative, implemented through the CSR program of HUSKY Technologies, aims to empower the wives of jawans and women from surrounding areas with valuable skills to foster financial independence and self-reliance.
The inauguration ceremony was led by Ms. Namrutha, Company Secretary of HUSKY Technologies, and Ms. Ritika Tiwari, President of the Army Wives Welfare Association, OD Avadi, who served as the chief guests. Senior officers from the Ordnance Depot, Avadi, were also present to mark the occasion. A total of 32 women from the Ordnance Depot community have already enrolled in the courses offered by the school, which include a Certificate Course in Tailoring and a Diploma Course in Tailoring, both accredited by Singer India. These programs aim to equip participants with advanced skills in tailoring, furthering their economic empowerment.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Ritika Tiwari, President of the Army Wives Welfare Association, OD Avadi, highlighted the significance of this initiative: “This is an excellent opportunity for women to learn tailoring and empower themselves to start their own businesses, creating more job opportunities for women in both rural and urban areas.”
The tailoring school is part of a women empowerment program spearheaded by the Mastermind Foundation, focused on enhancing the livelihoods of the wives of jawans. With the uncertainties inherent in their husbands’ profession, this initiative aims to provide these women with the skills needed to support themselves and their families, promoting resilience and financial security.
HUSKY Technologies, through their CSR initiatives with the Mastermind Foundation, has adopted six villages, benefiting 6,000 farmers under the Rural Livelihood Farmers Support Program. Additionally, they have supported the education of 41 children of widows of ex-servicemen through Project Sahayatha. In recognition of their exemplary social responsibility efforts, HUSKY Technologies has been honored twice by the Honorable Governor of Tamil Nadu.
