Sri Lankan Navy detains 24 Indian fisherman

Colombo, Nov. 29 According to an official statement released on Tuesday, the Sri Lankan Navy has detained 24 Indian fishermen and confiscated their five trawlers for allegedly engaging in poaching within the nation’s territorial waters.

The fishermen were detained on Monday evening off the shore of Karainagar in the northern Jaffna peninsula during a joint operation by the Navy and the Sri Lanka Coast Guard, according to the statement.

The Navy claimed that they were afterwards brought to the harbour at Kankesanthurai and given to the fisheries inspectorate for further action.
