As the saffron party prepares for the assembly elections scheduled for early next year, the ruling BJP in Tripura will organise a “rath yatra” across the state beginning on January 1, a party senior announced on Monday.
According to him, a three-person committee led by Minister of Information and Cultural Affairs Sushanta Chowdhury has been established to supervise the yatra’s preparations.
Election to the 60-member Tripura Assembly is due to be held in February.
Sunit Sarkar, the BJP’s media coordinator, stated that one yatra would leave from the North Tripura district and the other from the South Tripura district.
Subarta Chakraborty, the party’s principal spokeswoman, stated that the purpose of the yatra is to enlist public support prior to the election.
